چکیده

The control of visually guided movement has been showed to be optimised when motor programming quickly integrated the visual information to update on-going motor commands. The purpose of this study was to verify this proposition for movement executed in virtual visual environment (VE), by exploring the effect of immersion on the on-line visuomotor control of goal-directed arm movement. Six subjects participated in the experiment, in which hand reaching toward a stationary or a moving virtual visual target (double step paradigm) was executed in standing posture. The analysis of the hand kinematics and postural adjustment showed an accurate control of movement and balance in both reaching conditions. This indicates that the immersion do not affects the on-line control processes used by the CNS to adjust movement in interactive VE.

Cognitive Loading Affects Motor Awareness and Movement Kinematics but Not Locomotor Trajectories during Goal-Directed Walking in a Virtual Reality Environment

The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of cognitive loading on movement kinematics and trajectory formation during goal-directed walking in a virtual reality (VR) environment. The secondary objective was to measure how participants corrected their trajectories for perturbed feedback and how participants' awareness of such perturbations changed under cognitive loading. ...

Self- directed learning barriers in a virtual environment: a qualitative study

Introduction: There is a growing trend in online education coursesin higher education institutes. Previous studies have shown thathigh levels of self-direction are essential for successful onlinelearning. The present study aims to investigate challenges of andbarriers to self-directed virtual-learning among postgraduatestudents of medical sciences. Methods: 23 postgraduate virtual students of me...

Is visual-based, online control of manual-aiming movements disturbed when adapting to new movement dynamics?

Previous research has shown that for goal-directed movements, online visual feedback is not necessary for the adaptation of movement planning to novel movement dynamics. In the present study, we wanted to put this proposition to a stringent test and determine whether the usually dominant role of online visual feedback in movement control is diminished when goal-directed movements are performed ...

On-line versus off-line vestibular-evoked control of goal-directed arm movements.

The present study tested whether vestibular input can be processed on-line to control goal-directed arm movements towards memorized visual targets when the whole body is passively rotated during movement execution. Subjects succeeded in compensating for current body rotation by regulating ongoing arm movements. This performance was compared to the accuracy with which subjects reached for the ta...

Online Estimation of Elbow Joint Angle Using Upper Arm Acceleration: A Movement Partitioning Approach

Estimating the elbow angle using shoulder data is very important and valuable in Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) systems which can be useful in assisting C5/C6 SCI patients. Much research has been conducted based on the elbow-shoulder synergies. The aim of this study was the online estimation of elbow flexion/extension angle from the upper arm acceleration signals during ADLs. For this, ...
